On December 17th-20th the first working meeting of partners of TEMPUS program “Geographic information technology for sustainable development in Eastern neighbouring countries” was conducted in the Armenian State University of Architecture and Construction in the city of Yerevan. Representatives from Germany, Spain, Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia and project coordinator, representative from Sweden had discussed aspects and problems concerning realization of this program.
In the work of Ukrainian delegation were representatives of two universities. From Lviv Polytechnic National University: director of the Institute of Geodesy professor Kornyliy Tretyak and lecturer of the chair photogrammetry and geoinformatics Lyubov Babiy; from Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture head of the chair geoinformatics and photogrammetry professor Yuriy Karpinskyi.
During the meeting the planned activities had been revised, special attention was paid to activities of the first project year; also some organizational and financial details had been corrected. In resolution of the meeting the importance of the results of the project implementation for education in the field of geoinformation technologies and the necessity of consideration of opinion of all stakeholders in each partner country in the field of geodesy, cartography and geographic information (teachers, scientists, postgraduates, students, representatives of national agencies, enterprises of all forms of ownership dealing with geoinformation systems) were emphasized.
Since January 2011 in the frame of TEMPUS project «Geographic information technology for sustainable development in Eastern neighbouring countries» and with support of Lviv Polytechnic National University the English courses for teachers and scientists of the Institute of Geodesy have been started.
The purpose of these courses is to rise the professional English level for following active participation in the project activities and in other international activities of the Institute of Geodesy. High level on English is necessary as in the project the retraining of teachers and scientists on the intensive training courses on selected geodesy and GIS topics solely in English and also participation of lecturers and teachers of the Institute of Geodesy in to modernization of existing and creation of new curricula including development of new teaching materials together with colleagues from Sweden, Spain, Germany, Moldova and Armenia is planned.
